Men prefer women who are smarter than them in long distance relationships, but this changes when they come face to face. A new report published in the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin suggests that psychological distance is a part of determining people’s initial attraction, where men rely more on their ideal preferences. The studies looked at how men reacted to hypothetical women, to women they expected to meet, and to women they actually did meet. Women who outperformed men in shared areas of expertise were perceived as more threatening in person.
